You may be surprised to learn that more and more employers are using totally new and creative ways of interviewing job-seekers.

The idea behind these new interviewing tactics is to create an environment where it is not possible for the interviewee to pre-plan or fake their responses to interview questions. They achieve this objective by placing the candidate in a real life situation where they have to deal with a given situation.

So keep a look out for this when you go to your next interview and don’t be put off if they interview you in this way.

I am often asked what the correct dress code is for attending a job interview.

To a large extent it depends on the position you are applying for. However, in all cases you should dress smartly without going over the top. The main consideration is to be professional and create the impression that you have taken the trouble to dress appropriately… this also shows you have respect for the interviewer.

Do not overdress or wear clothes that are likely to offend… stick to conservative dark colors and avoid bright garish colors that are not appropriate for the workplace.

Of course, be sure to be well groomed as well. This is an important element of the overall impression you will create.

It doesn’t have to be like that. The secret to a confident and convincing job interview lies in thorough preparation. Most of the questions you are likely to be asked are well documented in most articles on interviews and so you can prepare for these in advance.

There are many other things that can be done in preparation and I will be publishing a number of articles on this very important part of the job hiring process.
