A thank you letter, also known as the follow-up letter, is an important part of the job search process

It can also serve as a marketing tool. When sending a follow up letter after a job interview you can remind the employers of your skills as stated in your resumes and interview.

You can also talk about any additional benefits of hiring you after you have had time to ponder over the interview.

You should send a thank you letter within 24 hours of the interview

A well constructed letter can show off certain qualities to employers such as consideration, organization and professionalism.

Do not skip the thank you letter as it can make a good impression on an employer, especially at a time when he has a decision to make and choose between several candidates.

A thank you letter is like a sales letter and it is a quick and easy way of furthering your cause of finding a job

You may need to use the ‘Thank You’ letter under several different kinds of circumstances in your job search process. Some such events would be:

  • Job Interviews
  • Informational Interviews
  • Providing References

Here’s a sample letter in generic form so that you can quickly adapt it to your particular situation:
